Sports Funding

In 2013-14 and 2014-15 additional funding was provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, to improve the provision of physical education (PE)  and sport in primary schools.  Schools are free to determine  how best to use this funding but must consider how to further encourage pupils to develop healthy lifestyles and increase participation in PE and Sport.

When considering the expenditure of this funding, our aims are to:

  • deepen staff understanding and confidence in the teaching of PE across the school
  • monitor the quality of teaching and learning to ensure all children make relevant progress in their physical development
  • support and engage less active children in PE sessions ensuring they have a clear understanding of the importance of exercise
  • provide opportunities to explore a range of sports
  • increase participation in local competitions
  • provide enrichment activities for Gifted & Talented pupils
  • provide physical before and after school clubs
  • ensure active playtimes and lunchtimes using stimulating equipment and resources
  • ensure active continuous provision in YR
