Online Safety
Children at Southwood regularly use the internet to support their learning. We provide frequent e‑safety learning activities and dedicated lessons to help pupils understand how to stay safe online and what to do if they encounter anything that makes them feel unsure, uncomfortable or unsafe. Keeping children safe is a shared responsibility, and we work together to ensure pupils know how to behave responsibly and keep safe online.
The internet is a valuable resource and is now widely accessible through smartphones, tablets and other devices. At home, it can be increasingly challenging to supervise children while they are online, so it is important that appropriate parental controls are set up through your internet service provider (ISP). Please click the link below to watch a video explaining how to do this for the main ISPs:

Keeping Safe at Home
Social Media (e.g. Facebook and similar platforms)
Many social media sites have a minimum age requirement of 13 years old, meaning primary aged children should not be using them as they are not suitable. These platforms do not provide the same level of protection as child‑specific apps and can allow children to communicate with anyone.
Keep Devices in Shared Spaces
Where possible, set up computers or devices in a shared area of the home. Talk regularly with your child about what they are doing online and explore the many wonderful, safe websites together. It is important to build safe, open relationships and communication around online safety.
Check Privacy Settings
Make sure privacy settings are reviewed and updated regularly so that your child’s information and posts are only visible to only trusted friends and not to the wider public.
